Green financing can be applied for almost any construction project.

Conditions for all projects

  • The project is yet to be realized in the Netherlands. An application must be submitted within six months after the commencement of construction.
    • Start of new construction work: the first moment when ‘a shovel breaks ground at the construction site.’
    • Start of renovation work: the first moment when demolition work begins.
  • It is reasonable to expect that the project will yield some return on investment.
  • All wood used must be FSC or PEFC certified.
  • Contractors working on the project must also be FSC certified.

 

Commercial Buildings & Industry

This theme comprises three categories: renovation of commercial buildings, construction of new commercial buildings, and industrial projects. Within these categories, you must meet at least one of the specified conditions to be eligible for green financing.

  • For renovation, the energy label must improve by at least 2 steps.
  • For new construction, you need an energy-neutral building (BENG 2 at 0) or an improvement of 50% compared to the current building regulations.
  • For a building with an industrial function, a BREEAM level of outstanding or a GPR of 8.5 must be achieved.

 

Residential Buildings

For residential buildings, there are two categories: new construction and renovation. In both categories, you must meet at least one of the specified conditions to be eligible for green financing.

  • For the renovation of residential buildings, the subsidy amount depends on the improvement of the energy label, which must improve by at least 2 steps.
  • For new construction, it depends on the primary fossil energy usage, which must be negligible or 50% better than the prevailing building regulations.

 

Applying for Green Financing

The amount of green financing that can be provided depends on the sustainability level of the building and its square meter size. Applications can be submitted throughout the year. An application must be reported within 6 months after the project’s commencement.
